You've earned it!
Let's face it. Inflation isn't going anywhere except up in the near future. When you're a senior, or any age on a fixed income, every penny counts even when there isn't high inflation. Parking your car, becoming a homebody, and eating Ramen noodles every day isn't the only option though. There are multiple ways for seniors to save money and enjoy a life.
If you are at least 55, there are many options for obtaining discounts. One action helps - join AARP. Some establishments merely go by your age, but others use AARP to give a discount.
Are you a shopper? Need some clothes, household items, home health items? Car needs an oil change? You're in luck! The following all give discounts: Joann Shops, Ross, Michael's, Rite Aid, Valvoline. The amount of the discount varies, and in some cases, occurs only on a specific day of the week.
Like eating out? Take your discount here: Applebee's, Arby's, Ben & Jerry's, Blackfish Grill, Burger King, Chick-Fil-A, Chili's, Cici's, Dairy Queen, IHOP, Whataburger (ask for Club 55).
Want to travel? Ask for your discount on Amtrak, American, Delta, British Airways, and United. Grab your National Park Lifetime Pass for $80 and get 50% off services and facilities.
Need a car rental? Avis, Budget, Dollar, and Hertz all give senior discounts of varying amounts.
And when you get to where you're going, check for discounts at these hotels: Best Western, Clarion, Comfort Inn, Hampton Inn, or Marriott. In some cases, a certain percentage of rooms are designated for senior discounts so it depends on availability.
You'll certainly want to keep in touch with family and friends, sharing the news about the discounts. Well, make sure you have your T-Mobile or Verizon Senior Plan. There's also Consumer Cellular with set rates for AARP members.
Life doesn't have to stop, or even slow down, if you line your discounts up right. It won't save enough to change your tax bracket, but every little bit helps.
